The initial situation
Sexualized violence against men1 is a widespread but unknown and highly taboo subject. According to the study "Health and Sexuality in Germany", more than 5.4 million men have experienced sexualized violence in childhood, adolescence or adulthood*. Despite these alarming figures, sexualized violence against men remains a social taboo.
The challenge
Bringing unknown topics into the public eye is always challenging. If it is also a major taboo subject, an attention-grabbing idea is all the more necessary. Ultimately, the aim is to reach as many affected people as possible and encourage them to seek professional help, such as that offered by the psychological advice center "Ruf und Rat" of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
The Insight
Taboo, stigmatization and traditional gender roles - Men affected by sexualized violence tend to misinterpret or play down sexual boundary violations against themselves. It is important to raise awareness, sensitize people and draw attention to the existing counselling services.
The creative twist
The result
The campaign translates the "pressurization" of male victims visually and draws attention to the topic of "violence" in connection with men. The unusual motifs were successfully disseminated via City Light posters, public video, billboards, free postcards, press media and social media and led those affected, relatives and interested parties to the specially created website, which offers opportunities for dialog.
"Tatort Mann" sends out a strong signal against sexualized violence against men1. The campaign helps to bring the topic out of the taboo zone and raise social awareness.
1 Stands for the linguistic representation of all social genders and gender identities.
